UP UP & ..... ! This week car conversation with my 4 yrs. daughter, Isabella is how is Santa going to get her Christmas list. Isabella and Sam tried to deliver their Christmas lists to Santa at the store but Santa wasn't in. (To busy at the toy workshop, you know.) We shared ideas together on ways Santa could get the letters. Her idea was to throw it up into the air. Where did she get this idea? I don't know? My students at school thought maybe from Winnie the Poop (remember how letters just fly in the air). One of my great students suggested I get balloons and tie the notes to them. What a great idea! They where also so kind to inform me that the Dollar store sell helium balloons for a $1, even more perfect.
So, I stopped and bought two balloons. Once they saw the balloons it was love at first site. Isabella was so excited. She gave the balloon a name... Mr. Balloony. She ate supper with it in hand, took a bath with it and played all night with it. When I explained that she would be sending her letter to Santa.. the tears just fell.. "I can't let Mr. Balloony go.." she said. So I gave in and let her play with it for a couple of days.
But knowing that the helium wouldn't last forever, I finally got my son Sam to let me let it go. The trouble arose with astronomical rainfall in the last weeks.
Bound and determined to fulfill my idea of letting the balloon go so that Santa can then return them on Christmas day. (Yes, I am planning on buying new balloons for Christmas day to pretend they been returned from Santa.) It all sounded like a great idea. Until ...
